What is Sacred Tradition and how does it relate to Scripture?

Sacred Tradition is the living transmission of the Gospel entrusted by Christ to the Apostles and handed on through the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Together with Sacred Scripture, it forms one sacred deposit of the Word of God, from which the Church draws her certainty about all revealed truths (CCC 80-82).

The Role of the Magisterium

Sacred Tradition is therefore not a rival to Scripture but its inseparable companion, the living context in which Scripture was born, has always been read, and will always be rightly understood.
