What is the sacrament of Confirmation?

Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation. It deepens and perfects the grace of Baptism, sealing the recipient with the gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthening them to live and defend the faith as a mature disciple of Christ. It is conferred through anointing with chrism and the laying on of hands.

Scriptural Basis

The prophet Isaiah foretold the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit resting upon the Messiah (Is 11:2), gifts which the Church has always understood as bestowed in Confirmation on those united to Christ.
