What happens after death according to Catholic teaching?
Catholic teaching holds that immediately after death, each soul undergoes a particular judgment. Depending on that judgment, the soul enters Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell. At the end of time, soul and body will be reunited at the general resurrection and final judgment.
Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell
Our Lord Himself warned of these realities: 'And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting' (Matthew 25:46).
