Dear Friends, Today, let's reflect on Barnabas, the encourager, and his uplifting role in Antioch.

Today's Verse

"Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord."
— Acts 11:22-24

Reflection

In the early church, Barnabas was sent to Antioch during a time of great growth. His presence brought joy and encouragement, as he witnessed God's grace at work. Barnabas’ exhortations inspired many to remain steadfast in their faith. In our own lives, we too can be like Barnabas, offering encouragement to others, especially in times of rapid change or growth, whether at work, home, or in our communities.

Encouragement can strengthen and grow faith in times of change.

1-Minute Study: Understanding Encouragement

Barnabas, whose name means 'son of encouragement,' was a pivotal figure in the early church. His ability to see and nurture the potential in others, such as when he vouched for Paul (Acts 9:27), exemplifies true encouragement. Encouragement is not mere flattery; it's a sincere effort to uplift others, drawing out their strengths and encouraging perseverance. In our lives, we can follow Barnabas' example by recognizing and affirming the goodness in others, fostering an environment where faith and community can flourish.
