Mordecai at the Gate: Quiet Vigilance

Today's Verse

"In those days, while Mardochai abode at the king's gate, Bagthan and Thares, two of the king's chamberlains, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. And the thing was known to Mardochai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mardochai's name. And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king."

Mordecai was not on a throne or in the council chamber; he was sitting at the king’s gate when he overheard two officers planning harm. He did not ignore the danger, spread gossip, or seek credit. He reported it through Esther, and the matter was recorded. Vigilance often looks like this today: noticing a warning sign at work, checking on a struggling neighbor, or speaking up when something unsafe is unfolding.

Vigilance is faithful attention that notices what matters and acts before harm grows.
