Daily devotional: Naomi's Journey to Restoration

Friday, July 24, 2026

Dear Friend, today we reflect on Naomi's journey back to hope and restoration.

Today's Verse

"And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David."
— Ruth 4:14-17

Reflection

Naomi, once bitter and empty, found restoration as her daughter-in-law Ruth bore a son, Obed. The community rejoiced, recognizing God's hand in restoring Naomi's joy and legacy. In our lives, restoration can come through unexpected relationships and blessings, reminding us that God can renew us through love and community.

Restoration often arrives through unexpected blessings.

1-Minute Study: Understanding Restoration

Restoration is a powerful theme throughout the Bible. In Naomi's life, it meant finding joy and purpose again through her family and community. Job experienced restoration after tremendous loss, as God blessed him with twice as much as he had before (Job 42:10). Similarly, the Prodigal Son was restored to his father’s love, not by merit, but by grace (Luke 15:20-24). Restoration often involves healing, renewal, and a return to what was lost or broken, reminding us that God’s love can mend the deepest wounds.
