Isaiah's Vision: A Cleansing Call

Today's Verse

"Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."

Reflection

In Isaiah's vision, he acknowledges his unworthiness before God. A seraphim cleanses him with a coal from the altar, symbolizing purification. God then asks for a messenger, and Isaiah answers the call. In our lives, recognizing our imperfections can lead us to seek transformation. We are all called to serve in unique ways, whether in our workplaces, families, or communities.

Isaiah's cleansing and subsequent call highlight the power of divine preparation. Just as Isaiah was purified before being sent, we, too, must be willing to undergo transformation before fulfilling our callings. Consider Moses, who was called from tending sheep to lead a nation, or Esther, who rose from obscurity to save her people. Our calling often requires a readiness to embrace change and step into roles we might initially feel unprepared for. Like Isaiah, we can respond, 'Here am I; send me.'
